Accessibility

The Bombay Sapphire Distillery has been designed with accessibility of all our guests as a top priority. Here is some further information about what you can expect from your experience at the distillery, and to help you plan your visit.

Pre-arrival & car parking

What to consider when you arrive at the Bombay Sapphire Distillery

  • If you are using sat nav the postcode for the distillery is RG28 7NR
  • The nearest railway station is Overton which is a 30 minute walk to the distillery
  • You can find information on how to get to us on the Plan Your Visit page of the website
  • The nearest bus stop is on London Road right outside the distillery
  • The 76 bus from Basingstoke is wheelchair accessible
  • There is a shelter but no seating at the bus stops
  • The main walkway outside the distillery is wide and wheelchair friendly with a gentle incline from the bus stop to the main entrance
  • There is limited parking on site for 85 cars and 5 clearly marked blue badge bays which are 100m from the main entrance through the gardens
  • The on-site car park is compacted gravel with a compacted gravel pathway to the entrance bridge. From the entrance bridge to the Entrance Hall the pathways are paved and flat
  • The car park is well lit at night as are the paths with lighting at ground level
  • There is no other parking available for the distillery and we insist that all guests park in the car park rather than in the village of Laverstoke
  • The entrance has a gentle slope down from the car park with no steps and is suitable for wheelchair access
  • The main Entrance Hall door is bi-fold and will fit all wheelchairs

MAIN ENTRANCE, RECEPTION AND TICKETING AREA

  • The main Entrance Hall is situated on the ground floor with step-free access throughout
  • There is a bench seat which guests can rest on
  • The floor surface is varnished wood and the area is evenly lit with overhead lighting
  • There is a lowered section of the admissions desk
  • There is a hearing loop system installed on the admissions desk and wherever there are further hearing loops these are well signposted
  • A magnifying glass, pen and paper are available at the admissions desk and in the shop
  • Wheelchair loan is available free of charge, please do let us know in advance so we can prepare the wheelchairs

On the Tour

ATTRACTION (DISPLAYS, EXHIBITS, ETC.)

  • We can provide a printed handout of the tour in standard and large text, if you require this, please ask a member of staff
  • Braille is currently not available
  • Interpretation boards and displays are in large text and have pictorial representation where applicable
  • We encourage people to smell the aromas and botanicals in the Botanical Dry Room
  • Bench style seating is available at various points throughout the distillery
  • The floor surface is wood, slate and concrete in most places however in the still house there is grate flooring. We insist that all guests wear sensible footwear – no open toed sandals or high heels
  • Lighting in the various rooms is mostly bright and from above however, the cinema room may be darker than other rooms. It is on 2 levels and we have a lift for access to the differing levels
  • There is a slight lip on the entrance to the Glasshouses and a shelf with a drop to the planted beds. Care should be taken as at night the lighting is low-level LED lighting
  • The Mill Bar is accessible with the bar and till points at lower height on the top side of the bar. The differing levels are marked on the floor and handrails are available to use on the walls
  • The Vault which is a private hosting facility within the Mill Bar has no wheelchair access
  • The Empire Room and mezzanine level has an accessible lift from the Entrance Hall. Floors are level throughout on the second floor
  • There is low-level background music playing throughout

PUBLIC TOILETS

  • Public toilets are located on the walk into the distillery along the river. They are clearly signposted. On the experience we have toilets in the Mill Bar and Entrance Hall
  • Unisex toilets with wheelchair access are available in the gallery alongside the river and in the Entrance Hall, each of these have:
    • An emergency alarm cord
    • A push button door opening and switch lock
    • 1m transfer space to the right of the Entrance Hall toilet
    • A toilet height of 400mm/15.7ins
    • Vertical rails either side of both basin and toilet
    • A horizontal rail adjacent to the toilet
    • Overhead lighting
    • A flashing light when the fire alarm sounds
    • Lever taps on the sink, paper towels and a dryer

CATERING

  • Tables on the Terrace and in the Mill Bar are well spaced. They are a mixture of upright chairs without arms and banquette window seating
    • Tables are low level
    • Lighting is natural or overhead/wide wall lighting
    • Where possible our food is sourced locally
    • We do our best to cater for dietary requirements, please contact us in advance for any specific request you may have

SHOP

  • The Gin Shop has a range of cocktail making equipment, Bombay Sapphire liquids, mixers and books
  • The Gin Shop is adjacent to the Mill Bar on the terrace next to the exit gate
  • There is a glass door 900mm wide with a gentle slope up to the entrance
  • The shop is level throughout with wooden flooring
  • The counter is low-level as are the majority of products. A staff member is on hand to assist if required
  • There is ample room in the shop for a large wheelchair
  • There is background music playing and the counter has a hearing loop system installed

GROUNDS AND GARDENS

  • The entrance to the distillery is through a garden landscape with tall trees, compacted gravel paths and low-level lighting
  • Main pathways are 1800mm/70.8ins. wide
  • Between pathways there are grass areas which can be uneven underfoot and should not be walked on

Some final things to consider

  • All of our staff receive regular training that includes disability awareness training and welcome host training
  • We have a set of evacuation procedures – should you require it someone will assist you with evacuation either out of the building or to a refuge
  • We have safe lifts and evacuation chairs to assist
  • All our information can be viewed on the website and we can produce any printed material in large print
  • No pets or animals can enter the distillery, except for guide dogs and other assistance dogs
  • We will make reasonable adjustments to the distillery visitor experience to ensure that disabled persons including those with guide dogs and other assistance dogs have a positive experience and, above all else, remain safe
  • If you are a guide dog assisted person, please contact us in advance highlighting your specific requirements so that We can endeavour to deliver a positive visitor experience
  • There is clear signage throughout the experience
